Suicide Prevention Blog- Fusion People

September is Suicide Prevention Month and is a crucial time to raise awareness about mental health to help prevent suicide and support those who need it.

Suicide is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK, and with suicides among teenage girls and young women having doubled in recent years, it is more important than ever to raise awareness and check in on those who need support.

Males working in the construction industry are 3 times more likely to die from suicide than males in other sectors. As a recruitment company that hires across the rail and construction sectors, we understand the unique pressures these roles can bring, and we’re committed to supporting the people and the mental health of those in these fields.

One of the simplest yet most powerful ways to prevent suicide is by checking up on those around us. A kind word, a quick chat, or simply asking, “Are you okay?” can make a world of difference. Creating an environment where people feel supported, will help encourage those to seek help when they need it.

At Fusion People the well-being of our staff and candidates is of the utmost importance to us. This is why we have a well-being portal that helps support our contracted worker’s physical, mental, and financial well-being.

During this month, we encourage everyone to engage with our resources, reach out for support, and help foster a safer, more supportive work environment.

If you feel like you’re struggling and need support, speak to your GP, or here are alternative tools you can use:

Samaritans: Contact them here

NHS: Help for suicidal thoughts

If you’re a Fusion People worker or employee, don’t forget you have access to a range of advice and support through our wellbeing portal. If you haven’t registered yet, please drop Lucy Guthrie a line on lucy.guthrie@fusionpeople.com
