Are You Work-Ready for 2025 Festive Rail Works?
As the festive period approaches, rail teams across the country are preparing to deliver vital works that will improve the passenger and freight experience for the year ahead. These projects are essential to maintaining and enhancing our rail infrastructure, but they rely on careful planning, coordination, and above all, compliance.
Why Compliance Matters in Rail
Every year, we see instances where individuals are denied access to work by the COSS due to expired competencies, medicals, or Supplier Assurance. These situations can cause delays, disrupt delivery schedules, and add unnecessary pressure during an already busy time.
By taking proactive steps now, we can prevent these issues and ensure all planned works go ahead safely and efficiently.

Key Reminders Before The Festive Rail Works
To help prepare, please ensure the following checks are completed ahead of your shifts:
- Competences and Medicals
Check expiry dates in MySentinel before attending the site. If any competences or medicals are due to expire before or during the festive period, contact your Primary Sponsor as soon as possible to arrange a re-certification. - Supplier Assurance
Critical dates for Supplier Assurance, including audits and subscription renewals, are visible in both the Sentinel and Supplier Assurance provider systems. These should be checked well in advance to allow for any required renewals.
Taking a few minutes to verify these details now helps ensure that everyone who turns up for their shift is ready and authorised to work, keeping projects on schedule and teams safe.
Supporting Each Other
This time of year can be demanding, and teamwork is key. Please check in with your colleagues to make sure everyone is aware of their responsibilities and has the support needed to complete their checks and renewals.
